Mesce Scores Twice To Carry Crusaders

Alvernia Tops LBC, 3-1

BOX SCORE

Lancaster, Pa. (Sept. 1, 2010) - Junior forward Amy Mesce (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) scored twice and senior Felicia Sippel (Cinnaminson, N.J./St. Hubert) handed out a pair of assists to lead Alvernia University (1-0) to a 3-1 win over Lancaster Bible College (0-1) in non-conference women's soccer action at LBC.

With her two goals, Mesce moves up the record book at Alvernia into fourth place in career goals (13) and fifth place in career points (29).  Sippel's two assists move her into a tie for first place in career assists (13) with Marissa Rogers (2000-03).

Mesce scored her first goal on a corner kick just under four minutes into play and freshman Laura Mauroschadt (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) made it 2-0 Crusaders with a shot over the keeper in the 13th minutes.

LBC got on the board late in the first half on a goal by Amanda Bracelin for a 2-1 Alvernia lead at the break, and the Crusaders scored the only goal of the second half -- from Mesce -- for the 3-1 final.

Alvernia returns home to host the third annual Crusader Cup.  Alvernia will face Gwynedd-Mercy Saturday at 2:30.  Dickinson, the 2009 champion, will face PSU-Altoona to open the day at noon.
