Amy Mesce Netted The Game Winner 1:38 Into Overtime

BOX SCORE

Wilkes Barre, Pa. (Sept. 14, 2010) - Junior Amy Mesce (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) scored the only goal of the game 1:38 into overtime as Alvernia posted a 1-0 non-conference victory over host King's College Tuesday night at McCarth Stadium.  With the win the Crusaders improve to 4-2 while King's falls to 1-5.

After 90 minutes of scoreless play, the teams entered extra time, where Mesce drilled a shot at King's keeper Danielle Johnson. The Lady Monarch junior made the stop, but the ball caromed right back to Mesce, who poked the rebound into the back of the net for the sudden victory.

With their fourth shutout in the first six games the Crusaders have tied the team record for shutouts in a season.  They will enter next week's game with York on a streak of 240 consecutive shutout minutes.

Alvernia outshot King's 28-7 and held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Alvernia returns to action on Sept. 20th when they host York University at 4:00pm.
