Alvernia Notches Comeback Win

Crusaders Score Three Unanswered Goals Against Arcadia

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2010) - Freshman Kyle Dillman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) netted the game-winning goal in the 41st minute as Alvernia (5-3, 1-0 Comm.) scored three unanswered goals to defeat visiting Arcadia University (5-4, 0-1 Comm.) by a score of 3-2 this afternoon in Commonwealth Conference action.

The Knights got on the board early as they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 8th minute that Adrianna Altera put just past and outstretched goalkeeper Samantha Leck (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley) to give Arcadia the 1-0 edge.  They added another goal five minutes later after Marilen Beatty recovered a rebound off Leck's pads and redirected it to the lower right of the cage to put the Knights up 2-0 in the 13th minute.

The Crusaders battled back with their first goal in the 23rd minute as Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) redirected a rope of a shot off the stick of Samantha Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run).  Landis scored a goal of her own in the 34th minute to tie the game as she received the corner pass-in from Erin Solley (Reading, Pa./Oley Valley) and one-timed it past everyone to tie the game at two.

The tie lasted just five minutes into the second half when Dillman was on the receiving end of a cross from Mirando Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and quickly fired off a shot to give Alvernia their first lead of the game, 3-2.  The 3-2 lead stood for the last 30 minutes aided by Alvernia's 16 second half shots to the Knight's 1.

The Crusaders outshot the Knights 29-5 and held the advantage in corners 19-5.  Alvernia returns to action Wed. Sept. 29th when they travel to Delaware Valley for a non-conference game at 4:00pm.
