BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Sept. 5, 2010) - Penn State-Altoona (2-0-1) scored an early goal in the 19th minute that stood as the game-winner as they defeated Alvernia University (2-1) on day two of the Crusader Cup Tournament. Shots were even at 11 for both teams, while PSU had just one more corner kick than Alvernia, but Allysia Ketchem's third goal of the season proved to be enough.
The Nittany Lions out shot the Crusaders in the first half 10-4 and connected with just over 19 minutes into the game when Meredith Waters found Ketchem in front of the net for the lone goal of the game. Alvernia goalie Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanaham) needed four saves through the first half to keep the game within one.
Alvernia regrouped and managed to out shoot PSU 7-1 in the second half but were unable to find the equalizer and Altoona goalie Lindsay Raspanti needed seven saves for the shutout.
Alvernia will return to action at home against F&M on Sept. 7th at 7:00pm.
