BOX SCORE
Lancaster, Pa. (Sept. 7, 2010) - Alvernia surrendered an early 1-0 lead, tied the game back at two, before a breakaway goal in the 59th minute gave F&M the 3-2 lead that they not relinquish this evening in non-conference field hockey action at F&M.
The Crusaders got on the board early as
Christy Yousaitis (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) fed a corner pass into Samantha Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) who fired a shot that found the back of the net to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. The remainder of the first half was scoreless with Alvernia tallying just two shots to F&M's nine.
F&M would tie the game at one in the 49th minute when Alvernia goalie
Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) was drawn out of the net for a save, but the rebound was quickly directed past her. The Diploments went on to take the 2-1 lead just six minutes later with a goal from
Allison McLaren.
Alvernia rallied back to tie the game in the 57th minute as
Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) scored her first goal of the season to tie the game at two after finding a rebound and directing it back into the lower corner of the net. The Crusaders lead was short lived as the Diplomats wasted no time in netting their third goal of the game with a breakaway in the 59th minute for the eventual 3-2 win.
Alvernia will return to action when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy for a non-conference match up on Sept. 11th at 3:00pm.
