Alvernia Falls At #10 Montclair State

Crusaders Lead 2-1 Early, Give Up Three Second Half Goals

Montclair, NJ (Oct. 1, 2011) - Montclair State (11-0), ranked #10 in the nation, managed three second-half goals to overcome an early 1-2 deficit to defeat the visiting Crusaders (7-3) this afternoon in non-conference action at Sprague Field on Montclair's campus.

Montclair struck first with a goal less than five minutes into the game from Michelle Hagel but Alvernia battled back quickly.  Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) evened the score, assisted by Erin Solley (Reading, Pa./Oley Valley) less than two minutes later.  Solley assisted on the go-ahead goal as well, less than three minutes later - 9:08 into the game as  Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) found a pass from Solley for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Alvernia took their 2-1 lead into halftime with four first half shots to Montclair's six and five penalty corners to Montclair's four.

Montclair evened the game at two apiece three minutes into the second half and scored both the go-ahead goal and an insurance goal within a minute (54:00, 54:49) to take the game 4-2.  Montclair outshot Alvernia 17-2 in the second half.

Crusader goalie Emily Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) had ten saves, while the defense tallied two saves of their own in goal.

Alvernia returns to action on Oct. 5th when they host King's College for a 4:00pm non-conference game.
