Crusaders Take First Conference Game Over Lycoming

Alvernia Defeats Visiting Warriors 2-0

Reading, Pa. (Oct.1, 2011) - Alvernia (7-2-1, 1-0 Comm.) secured their first Commonwealth Conference victory with a win over visiting Lycoming (5-5-1, 0-1 Comm.) by a score of 2-0 this afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field.  The Crusaders got a goal in each half while outshooting the Warriors 20-11, and holding the 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior Eric Franks (Reading, Pa./Exeter) gave Alvernia the 1-0 lead when he connected for his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 22nd minute.  Franks' goal was the lone goal of the half as Alvernia tallied 11 shots and Lycoming posted six of their own.

Late in the second half EJ Logan (Frederick, Md./Frederick) got Alvernia an insurance goal as he netted his second goal of the season on a cross off a corner kick.  Kyle Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) assisted on the first goal while freshman Josh Wollaston (Middletown, De./Carvel Academy) assisted on Logan's insurance goal.

Crusader goalkeeper Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) needed four total saves to secure his seventh win and fourth shutout of the season.

Alvernia returns to action when they host Richard Stockton on Oct. 4th in a non-conference 7:00pm game.
