Alvernia Defeats Visiting Lycoming 2-0

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Oct.1, 2011) - Alvernia (6-4, 1-0 Comm.) got a goal in each half as they defeated visiting Lycoming (2-8, 0-1 Comm.) by a score of 2-0 this afternoon in their Commonwealth Conference opener at Schlager Memorial Field.  The Crusaders outshot the Warrios 31-2, and held the advantage in corner kicks 8-0.

Freshman #Karli Nestor# (Bally, Pa./Boyertown) got things started for Alvernia with her third goal of the season in the 14th minute of play.  She found a quick pass after the corner kick in from Amy Mesce (Pittstown, NJ/Del. Val. Regional) and one-timed it in for the goal.  Despite 17 first half shots, Nestor's goal would be all Alvernia could muster through the first 45 minutes.

Mesce gave the Crusaders some insurance in the 68th minute as she found the corner kick in from Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame) and promptly headed it past the Warrior goalie for her fourth goal of the season.

Alvernia returns to action on Sat. Oct. 8th when the travel to Lebanon Valley for their second conference game of the season.
