Reading, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2011) - Four different players scored for Alvernia University (8-6-1) in a 4-1 win over Penn State-Berks (7-7-1) Thursday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Berks.
The Crusaders scored in the 14th and 26th minutes to open up a 2-0, first half lead. Hillary Prozillo (Swedesboro, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and
Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) both tallied their second goal of the year.
The score remained the same well into the second half until Berks cut the lead in half with a goal from Karly Shaffert in the 73rd minute, and it took the Crusaders less than 20 seconds to answer when
Alyss Reinsel (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) scored her first of the season assisted by
Karli Nestor (Bally, Pa./Boyertown).
Nestor added another for the Crusaders in the 81st minute for the 4-1 final.
Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame) and
Jamie Dearie (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) split time in net and made two saves apiece.
Alvernia returns to the conference schedule Saturday with a trip to national #1 Messiah College as part of a tripleheader. Field Hockey kicks off the day at 1:00 p.m. Women's Soccer starts at 5:00 p.m. followed by Men's Soccer at 7:00.
