#1 Messiah Blanks Alvernia 10-0

Grantham, Pa. (Oct. 22, 2011) - Top-ranked Messiah College (14-0-1, 6-0) poured in eight second-half goals en route to a 10-0 win over Alvernia University (8-7-1, 3-2-1) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's soccer action at Messiah.

The Falcons got two first-half goals from Jessica Shirk.  They tacked on five goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, and added the last goal of the game seven seconds before the final horn.

Alvernia senior Lindsey Neubauer (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made her first career start in net for the Crusaders and made 10 saves in 65 minutes.

Alvernia will travel to Delaware Valley College Wednesday for a non-conference game and close the regular season hosting Arcadia next Saturday.  The Crusaders are in a three-way tie with Arcadia and Elizabethtown for fourth place in the conference with one game remaining.  The top four teams make the postseason playoffs.
