BOX SCORE
Doylestown, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2011) - For the second straight season and just the second overall the Alvernia University women's soccer team (10-7-1) reached 10 wins in a season courtesy a 2-1 win at Delaware Valley (7-7-2) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Crusaders made a few adjustments at halftime in a 0-0 game resulting in a pair of goals for a 2-0 lead. Three minutes into the second half
Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) hit a left-footed cross to the head of
Karli Nestor (Bally, Pa./Boyertown) who finished her seventh of the season.
Thiry minutes later
Amy Mesce (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) hit a strike that got through the Del Val keeper, but without quite enough steam to reach the net. Gimber was there once again to clean up, netting her fourth of the season.
Alvernia split time in net between
Lindsey Neubauer (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) and
Jamie Dearie (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) who combined for four saves.
The Crusaders return to conference action Saturday when they host Arcadia for a pivotal Commonwealth Conference showdown with the Kinghts. Alvernia will likely need a win to even consider a playoff spot.
