BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2011) - Alvernia (8-2-1) scored two goals within six minutes as they recorded their first ever victory over the Ospreys from Richard Stockton (7-4-1) this evening in non-conference action on Schlager Memorial Field. With the win, Alvernia improves to 1-9 lifetime against the Ospreys in a series dating back to 1997.
The first half was well on its way to being a scoreless affair until the Crusaders broke through in the 43rd minute when freshman
Alex Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) found a pass deflection in the box and drilled it lower left past the Osprey goalkeeper who had come out of the net. This was Martyn's first career goal.
The Crusaders didn't waste much time in adding to their lead as they put another goal in less than four minutes into the second half.
Alex Martyn's older brother, junior
Kyle Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) fed a cross into freshman
David McEwen (Flourtown, Pa./Upper Merion) who promptly put it in the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.
The Crusaders held onto their 2-0 lead thanks to two second half saves from
Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land), including one at the final buzzer.
Alvernia and Richard Stockton were even in the box score with eight shots and three corners each.
Alvernia returns to action on Oct. 8th when they travel to Lebanon Valley for a 3:30pm Commonwealth Conference match-up.
