Crusaders Fall To Swarthmore To End Season

Swarthmore Defeats Alvernia 3-1

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2011) - Host and top seeded Alvernia (16-5-1) fell to #4 seeded Swarthmore (12-6-1) by a score of 3-1 this afternoon in ECAC Semifinal action at Schlager Memorial Field.  With the win, the Garnet with face the winner of #2 Medaille versus #3 Marywood tomorrow afternoon at 2pm in the ECAC Championship Game at Alvernia.

The Garnet got started early with an unassisted goal from Jack Momeyer in the 5th minute as he employed a crafty spin move and ripped a shot well beyond the reach of Crusader goalkeeper Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land).  Alvernia answered almost right away and tied the game at one with a goal from David McEwen (Cambridge, England/Upper Merion) in the 6th minute.  McEwen scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season as he snuck a shot upper right.

Swarthmore went ahead for good in the 36th minute with a perfectly placed header from Kieran ReichertRoberto Contreras IV sent a nice cross through the box that Reichert timed to perfection and sent the header shot just under the crossbar.  The Garnet added an insurance goal off the foot of Momeyer in the 63rd minute.

Swarthmore advanced into the ECAC Championship game tomorrow at 2pm at Alvernia.  They will face the winner of tonight's 7pm game between #2 Medaille and #3 Marywood.
