Annville, Pa. (Nov. 3, 2011) - Second-seeded Lebanon Valley College (13-4-3) scored a pair of first half goals separated by 63 seconds and added one midway through the second for a 3-0 win over #3 Alvernia University (11-8-1) Thursday afternoon in semifinal action of the Commonwealth Conference Women's Soccer Championships at Lebanon Valley.
The Dutchmen advance to the conference final where they will meet top-seeded Messiah College, a 3-0 winner over Albright College.
LVC opened the scoring in 18th minute when Heather Tran was able to beat an offsides trap on a free kick and was in alone against Alvernia keeper
Lindsey Neubauer (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun). Jordan Nendza hit the free kick from 35 yards out through the defense, and the player in the offsides position was determined not to be part of the play leaving Tran wide open.
A minute later the Dutchmen earned a corner kick--one of just three total on the game--and after a few bounces the ball found Nicole Snyder who knocked home her 18th goal of the season.
Alvernia senior
Amy Mesce (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) and
Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) both put shots on net in the first half, but LVC keeper Sami Young was able to snare both to preserve the 2-0 lead at the halftime break.
Midway through the second half, LVC's Lindi Crist served a pass in from the left flank and Sarah Dowhower collected it and put a shot on Neubauer from close range. Neubauer made the initial save, but couldn't control the rebound and Dowhower finished the play to put the hosts up 3-0.
