BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2011) - The Diplomats from F&M (4-0) needed overtime to hand Alvernia (3-1) their first loss of the season this afternoon in non-conference action at Schlager Memorial Field. Crusader goalie
Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) tallied nine saves on the day to control the Diplomat offense through regulation.
Neither team could manage a goal through regulation with F&M outshooting Alvernia 15-3 and earning nine penalty corners to Alvernia's eight. The Diplomates earned a penalty stroke late in the second half, but it would deflect off the post to keep the game in a scoreless tie.
Overtime saw F&M take charge right away as they promptly earned a corner and fired a shot on goal. The game winner came in the 74th minute of play as Diplomat Allison McLaren scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season. She managed to evade the Crusader defense in front of the net and snuck one just under Wunsch.
Alvernia will return to action on Sun. Sept. 18th when they travel to TCNJ for a non-conference match-up.
