St. Davids, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2011) - Eastern University (3-3-1) scored the only goal of the game on a header late in the first half of a 1-0 win over Alvernia University (4-4) Thursady afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Eastern.

The Crusaders got attack going early with Karli Nestor (Bally, Pa./Boyertown) breaking through for a pair of shots in the opening 12 minutes, but the Eastern keeper snuffed out the first and the second effort went wide.  The Eagles came back ripping off three shots in a four-minute stretch with Alvernia freshman Jamie Dearie (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) stopping the two that made it through on cage.

Dearie made another save with under 15 minutes left in the opening half then the Eagles broke through.  Julie Solerno served the ball into the middle and Kelsey Doutrich headed the ball just over Dearie and into the net.

Alvernia, which got off three shots in the opening 30 minutes, only tallied two more attempts over the final 60 with Bridget Verdel's (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame) effort in the 61st minute turned away by the keeper and Rachel Gimber's (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) shot in the 73rd minute sailing high.

Dearie finished with seven saves for the Crusaders who return to action Saturday at DeSales.
