Glenside, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2011) - Alvernia University (5-2, 1-0) scored a pair of second half goals to complete a come-from-behind, 3-1 victory over Arcadia University (1-8, 0-1) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey action at Arcadia.
Arcadia, looking for its second win of the season, opened the scoring in the fifth minute when Morgan Paese was able to emerge from a scramble with a shot that beat Alvernia keeper Erin Wunsh (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson). The Crusaders were able to level the match on
Leah Baer's (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) first goal of the season. The game remained tied 1-1 at the half.
Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) dished out her second assist of the season to set up
Katy Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) for the go-ahead goal just over five minutes into the second half. Senior defender
Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) added an insurance goal in the 67th minute.
Wunsch finished the game with three saves to record her fifth win of the season. Alvernia earned a decided 15-6 advantage in shots and a 13-3 lead in corners.
The Crusaders are scheduled for a non-conference game at Wilkes University on Monday.
