Center Valley, Pa. (Sept. 24, 2011) - DeSales University (5-2-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead and held off a late charge from Alvernia University (5-2-1) for a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at DeSales.
The Bulldogs scored in the 16th and 23rd minutes before Alvernia junior
Kyle Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) cut the deficit in half with his team-leading fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Both teams scored a goal each in the second half with Alvernia answering the DeSales tally with better than 30 minutes remaining.
Eric Franks (Reading, Pa./Exeter) scored his fourth goal of the year in the 57th minute knocking home a feed from
Justin Padinske (Mohrsville, Pa./Schuylkill Valley). Freshman
Nick Fore (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) had a great look at the equalizer later in the second half, but his bid rang off the post.
Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made three saves in net for the Crusaders including one from point blank range. The Crusaders ramped up the offense in the second half ripping off 11 of their 15 shots after halftime.
Alvernia will travel to Cabrini College Wednesday for a non-conference match with the Cavaliers.
