Crusaders Top Wilkes In Crossover Finale

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2012) - Alvernia University (9-10) broke a 1-1 tie winning back-to-back sets to take a 3-1 win over Wilkes University (7-12) in the final match of the MAC Women's Volleyball Crossover Saturday afternoon at the Physical Education Center.

All four teams in the crossover finished with a 1-1 record on the day.  Alvernia started the final match with an impressive 25-13 win in the opening set, but the Colonels came back with a 25-21 win in the second to tie up the match.  Alvernia took at 25-18 win in the third and closed the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.

Kristen Rupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) had a monster day with 16 kills and just two errors.  Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) collected double-figure kills with 13 and Brittanie Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) totaled 11 kills.  Tori Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) handed out 38 assists and had 17 digs.  Rupp paced the defensive efforts with 19 digs.

The Crusaders return to the conference schedule hosting Stevenson on Tuesday.
