BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2012) - On Saturday afternoon Alvernia University (6-6-3, 1-4) was defeated by Widener University (6-6-2, 2-1) by a score of 2-1 in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.
The Pride and Crusaders played an evenly matched first half that resulted in no goals from either side.
In the 60th minute the Pride broke the scoreless tie on an unassisted goal from Troy Czapor.

Ben Diller (Etters, Pa/Red Land) was substituted by freshman
David Giannini (Harleysville, Pa./Faith Christian) following the Czapor goal. Diller finished the day with two saves. Five minutes later on a Widener corner kick the Pride played the ball in front of the Crusader net and as a defender was turning to clear the ball he accidently deflected it into the net for a 2-0 Widener lead.
Kyle Martyn (Media Pa/Penncrest) was able to cut the deficit in half when he found the back of the net in the 78th minute. Martyn tallied his fifth of the year to tie his younger brother,
Alex Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest), for the team lead.
Sam Hart (Reading Pa/Exeter) found the ball in the center of the pitch just 20 yards out with about 15 minutes to play looking for the equalizer he fired a shot that ricocheted off the cross bar.
The Crusaders were unable to generate any further offensive threats as the Pride walked away with the win.
Widener outshot the Crusaders 16-13. Giannini finished with three saves.
The Crusaders return to play when they travel to Arcadia on Wednesday.
