Reading, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2012) - Alvernia University (6-4-1, 0-1-1) dropped a 4-0 decision to the third-ranked team in the nation, Messiah College (9-1-1, 2-0) Tuesday evening on a foggy, rainy night at Schlager Memorial Field.
The Crusaders played well defensively and got some brilliant saves early from junior keeper
Colleen Maher (Wall, N.J./Wall Township). The scoring was opened by the Falcons at the 29-minute mark Rachel Clapper netted her first of the season. They added a second goal in the opening half when Kyele Bridel scored in the 43rd minute.
The second half provided two more goals for the guests with both coming from the Falcons' leading scorer, Alex Brandt. The Crusaders fought hard all game but were unable to mount much offense. Maher put in a strong game in goal for the Crusaders with nine saves, three of which were big diving turnaways.
The Crusaders look to get back on the winning track this Saturday when they host Lebanon Valley College at 1:00 p.m.
