Reading, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2012) - On Tuesday afternoon the Alvernia University field hockey team (5-6, 1-2) defeated the Arcadia University Knights (8-2, 2-1) by a score of 2-1. Seniors Miranda Peto (Pheonixville,Pa/Pheonixville Area) and Erin Solley (Reading Pa/ Oley Valley) each scored en route to victory.

With 28 minutes remaining in the first half, the Crusaders applied heavy pressure into the Knights' zone. Peto dribbled the ball around two defenders before hitting Solley with a clean pass in front of the cage. Solley was able to rip her fourth goal of the season and the first of the game.

Later, in the second half, Solley and the Crusaders lined up for a penalty corner. Solley found Amanda Galanti (Middletown, NJ/MAST) at the top of the circle and Galanti fired the ball towards the cage. Peto was able to get a piece on the ball and deflect it off her stick for the second goal.

With a two-goal Crusader advantage, the Knights stopped the clock with a time out. Coming out of the timeout Knight midfielder Debbie Wolfe scored Arcadia's first goal to cut the deficit in half.

The Crusader defense held tough in the remaining 20 minutes getting saves from defenders and their goal keeper Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa/Wilson High School) to keep them in the lead. Wunsch made 13 saves on the day as the Crusaders ultimately won the game and improved their record to 5-6.
