Crusaders Defeat Hood 6-0

BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2012) - Alvernia University (8-7-2, 2-4-1) defeated visiting Hood College (2-13, 0-7) by a score of 6-0 Saturday evening in Commonwealth Conference action.  The Crusaders had six different goal-scorers, while senior Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) led the way with a goal and an assist.

Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College) got Alvernia on the board right away with her 7th goal of the season in the second minute of action.  Alvernia followed with four more goals before halftime.  Kristen Eckert (Oradell, NJ/River Dell Regional) had her first of the season in the 14th minute, assisted by Gimber.  Gimber added a goal of her own in the 24th minute and Shannon Browne (Independance, NJ/Hackettstown) had her second of the season in the 28th minute.  Alyss Reinsel (Philadelphia, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) had her first of the season off a penalty kick in the 37th minute to give Alvernia the 5-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half. Hillary Prozillo (Swedesboro, NJ/Bishop Eustace Prep) netted her first of the season in the 52nd minute to give the Crusaders a six-goal cushion that would stand for the eventual 6-0 win.

Alvernia keeper Colleen Maher (Wall, NJ/Wall Township) had four saves in 77 minutes of shutout soccer, while Reinsel closed out the shutout with one save over the final 13 minutes.

Saturday evening's game was played with just seven field players and a goalie on each side as the Hood roster has suffered some injuries, and in a show of sportsmanship Alvernia matched their eight players.

Alvernia is back in action Mon. Oct. 22nd when they host Delaware Valley in non-conference action at 4:00pm.
