Glenside, Pa. (Oct. 17, 2012) - Sophomore Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) collected a match-high 17 kills to lead Alvernia University (11-14, 3-4) to a 3-2 win over Arcadia University (9-10, 1-6) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference volleyball action at Arcadia.

The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a convincing 25-17 win in the opening set, but the Crusaders answered back with wins of 25-22 and 25-18 to take a 2-1 lead.  Arcadia took the fourth set 25-20 and Alvernia closed out the win with a 15-8 decision in the fifth and deciding set.

Toni Maurer (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) led the Alvernia defense with a match-high 18 digs.

The Crusaders continue the conference schedule on Tuesday at Elizabethtown.
