Reading, Pa. (Oct. 22, 2012) – Delaware Valley College (3-11-1) scored the equalizer against Alvernia University (8-7-3) with 10 minutes left in regulation and both teams missed golden goal opportunities in both overtime periods of a 1-1 tie Monday afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Alvernia junior Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame) recorded her team-leading eighth assist of the season and Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College) netted her seventh goal of the year for the Crusaders.

Neither team could find the back of the net through the first half with Alvernia holding a substantial 18-3 advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes.

The Crusaders continued to apply pressure until finally breaking through in the 57th minute.  Verdel received a pass on the right wing near the end line and slotted a ball back through the box that Gill finished easily back toward the near post.

The Crusaders remained up 1-0 late into the second half but couldn't find a much-needed insurance goal.  With 10 minutes left in regulation the Aggies took advantage of hanging around netting the equalizer in the 81st minute.  Mary Taylor setup Chelsea Neves-Carr for her third goal of the season.

Alvernia had a golden opportunity to end the game in the seventh minute of the first overtime period, but senior Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) was just wide of the target.

The first quality chance of the second overtime went to the guests with Marianne Morton coming up just wide of the left post on a breakaway opportunity.  Five minutes later another effort from Gimber caromed off the crossbar.

Delaware Valley had one final chance on a set piece in the last 30 seconds, but the Crusaders easily cleared the ball out of trouble.

Alvernia outshot DVC 41-8, but Julie Burnell saved 15 of the 16 on net.  Colleen Maher (Wall, N.J./Wall Township) made five saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia will return to the conference schedule Wednesday evening with a game at crosstown rival Albright College.
