Lions Score Early, Defeat Alvernia 3-1

Albright Scores Less Than Ten Minutes Into Play

BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Oct. 24, 2012) - Albright College (10-6, 5-3) scored early and went on to defeat Alvernia University (8-8-3, 2-5-1) by a score of 3-1 this evening in Commonwealth Conference action at Albright.  The Lions scored in the tenth minute of play, while Alvernia didn't manage a goal until the 85th minute, a goal that was quickly equalized.

Steph Przybyszewski got things started for Albright, giving them the early 1-0 lead as she found the back of the net from the back post on a corner kick play for her fifth goal of the season.  Albright added another in the 18th minute off the foot of Mel Sullivan, her second of the season.

The Lions took their 2-0 lead well into the second half before Alvernia got one back thanks to Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College) in the 85th minute off a free kick.  However, Gill's tally was equalized right away as Albright connected for goal number three right off the kick-off as Jordan Cassidy broke behind the defense and slotted one in to give the Lions some insurance and the eventual 3-1 victory.

Crusader goalkeeper Colleen Maher (Wall, NJ/Wall Township) played all 90 minutes in net for Alvernia with three saves and three goals allowed.

Alvernia concludes their regular season at Stevenson on Sat. Oct. 27th beginning at 1:00pm.
