Reading, Pa. (Oct. 25, 2012) - Widener University (16-15, 6-3) earned a 3-0 win over Alvernia University (11-16, 3-6) Thursday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.
The Pride jumped out to an early lead in the opening set and got on the board with a 25-11 win in the opener. They followed with a 25-13 win in the second set, and pulled out a close 25-21 win in the third and deciding set.
The Crusaders got a match-best nine kills from sophomore
Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) while
Brittany Lantz (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) totaled six kills.
Tori Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) finished with 18 assists and four different players reached double digits in digs led by Beck and
Amy Dziura (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington).
The Crusaders wrap up the season with an 11-16 record--their best in the last five years. The Pride moves on to the Commonwealth Championships which will begin next Monday.
