Crusaders Open With Impressive Win Over Immaculata

Four Players Tally for Alvernia

Reading, Pa. (Aug. 31, 2012) - Sophomore RJ Fisher (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored on a direct kick 49 seconds into the season and Alvernia University (1-0) got goals from four different players in a 4-0 win over Immaculata University (0-1) Friday night in non-conference men's soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Freshman Cody Shirk (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) made it 2-0 Alvernia in the sixth minute and 10 mintues later Kyle Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) finished an assist from Josh Wallaston (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) for a 3-0 lead.  Wollaston set up senior Michael Andrei (Reading, Pa./Exeter) in the 31st minute for the fourth and final goal of the game.

Senior goalie Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made three saves in net to record the shutout.

Alvernia dominated play in the season opener for both teams holding an 11-2 advantage in shots in the first half.  It finished with 16 shots to seven for the Mighty Macs.

Diller recorded his 13th career shutout pulling within two of the career lead at Alvernia.  Wollaston finished the night with two assists, the second multi-assist game of his career.  He also recorded two helpers in a 6-0 win over Berkeley last September.

The Crusaders continue the season with non-conference games at Eastern on Monday and at Gwynedd-Mercy next Wednesday.
