York, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2012) - Senior goalie Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) needed eight saves to post a 0-0 draw against York College (3-1-1) Wednesday afternoon and become the career leader in shutouts at Alvernia University (4-0-2) with his 16th.

York entered Wednesday's contest ranked #9 in the nation by d3soccer.com and #19 by the NSCAA.  Alvernia entered the NSCAA regional poll this week at #6 and was receiving votes in the d3soccer.com national poll.

Diller made three saves in the opening half and four in the second to keep the Spartans off the board then added one more in the first overtime period.

Alvernia had a great chance on a Joe Raymond (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) strike midway through the second half that skimmed off the crossbar, then had its best chance in the final minutes of the second overtime on a corner kick.  Tyler Reinoehl (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) put a header on net that beat the York keeper, but the last line defender was able to clear it off the line.  The Crusaders then buried the rebound, but were whistled for offsides disallowing the goal.

Diller, who set the single season record for shutouts with 10 last year, surpassed Richard Kessler's (2005-08) former mark of 15 career shutouts, and lowered his career goals against average to 0.78.

Alvernia continues the non-conference schedule this Saturday at Richard Stockton.
