Verdel Scores Two Again

BOX SCORE BOX SCORE

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (Sept. 12, 2012) - Junior forward Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, N.J./Notre Dame) entered this season with one career goal.  She's scored two in a game twice in the last four days.

Wednesday evening at King's College (1-3) Verdel netter a pair to lead Alvernia University (4-1-1) to a 4-2 win over the Monarchs in non-conference women's soccer action.

Verdel scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute then answered a King's goal with her second tally 27 seconds after the restart in the 23rd minute.  The Crusaders went up 3-1 on a Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College Area) goal in the final minute of the first half then took a 4-1 lead on a goal by Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown).  For good measure, Verdel had the assist on Gimber's goal.  Verdel went from two career points a week ago to 13 following Wednesday night's game.

Junior goalie Colleen Maher (Wall, N.J./Wal Township) made three saves in the win.

The Crusaders, winners of three of their last four, look to continue their winning ways next Tuesday at FDU-Florham.
