Reading, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2012) - Crusader Women's Soccer defeated host Valley Forge Christian College (0-9) this afternoon by a score of 11-0 in non-conference action. Alvernia (6-1-1) had two players net hat tricks in
Katelyn Gill (State College, Pa./State College) and
Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame). Verdel also had three assists, and with her nine points on the day set a new school record for points in a game, surpassing the previous record of eight.
The Crusaders got things started early with two goals from Verdel in the first ten minutes. She netted her first goal 8:13 into the game, and came back with another just 8:55 into action. Gill scored next at 11:29, then it was back to Verdel for her third goal at 14:52. Alvernia didn't stop there, with two more goals before halftime to give them a 6-0 cushion heading into the half.
The second half was more of the same with goals coming in the 58th, 63rd and 65th minute from
Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown),
Raychel Copeland (Octorara, Pa./Octorara) and
Shannon Browne (Independence, NJ/Hackettstown) respectively. Alvernia added two more in the 77th and 81st minutes, both from Gill, for the 11-0 final.
With their 11 goals, eight assists and 30 points, Alvernia set new team records for all three, surpassing the previous records of seven goals, six assists and 20 points.

Colleen Maher (Wall, NJ/Wall Township) needed just one save to record her sixth shutout of 2012. Alvernia is back in action tomorrow when they host DeSales at 1:30pm,
