Alvernia Splits Tri-Match At Immaculata

Immaculata, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2012) - On Saturday afternoon, the Alvernia University women's volleyball team split their tri-match at Immaculata University, first losing to Ursinus then defeating the host Immaculata Mighty Macs. Both matches went five sets.

In the first match against Ursinus, the Crusaders split the first four sets with Ursinus before dropping the fifth set 15-11. Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa. / Brandywine Heights) led the way with 12 kills while Tori Beck (Quakertown, Pa. / Quakertown) had 23 assists. The Crusaders tallied five team blocks.

In the second match against Immaculata Alvernia again split the first four sets but was able to pull out the last one by a score of 15-7. Newman had 18 kills while Toni Maurer (Center Valley, Pa. / Southern Lehigh) had 26 digs and four blocks.

The Crusaders move to 6-6 on the year. They return to action on Tuesday when they take on conference rival Messiah at home.
