Falcons Rally Past Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2012) - Messiah College (8-6, 3-1) rallied for a 26-24 in the opening set then cruised to 25-12 and 25-20 wins in the final two sets for a 3-0 win over Alvernia University (5-6, 2-2) Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Conference volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.

Alvernia scored back-to-back points to force a 24-all tie in the opening set surving a pair of set points, but the Falcons finished the match on a kill by Lauren Rees then a Crusader attack error.  Messiah opened up a 15-6 lead in the second set and had a 19-11 lead in the final set.

Messiah had a pair of players reach double figures in kills, Rees (11) and Lindsay King (10).  Alvernia was led by Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and Brittanie Wolfe (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove) who had eight kills apiece.  Tori Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) finised the night with 21 assists and Toni Maurer (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) had a team-best 13 digs.

Alvernia returns to action Thursday when it hosts Bryn Athyn in a non-conference match.
