BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Sept. 25, 2012) - For the second straight game, the Crusader Women's Soccer team significantly out-shot their opponent, but failed to record a victory as they fell this evening 2-1 to visiting PSU-Berks (7-2) in non-conference action. Alvernia (7-2-1) racked up 21 shots to PSU-Berk's three, and also earned 11 corner kicks to just two from the Lions.
It was PSU-Berks that struck first with a goal from
Sara Conover just 12 minutes into the game as she took the Crusader goalkeeper one-on-one and found the back of the net. Conover's goal was her tenth of the season and the only first half scoring action as Alvernia wasn't able to muster a goal despite 11 shots, eight on goal.
Conover connected again in the 57th minute on a header to put the Nittany Lions up 2-0, a lead they would hold until the 61st minute when
Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College) scored her fifth goal of the season to cut the lead in half. The Crusaders continued battering the Berks defense, but again, despite ten shots, seven on goal, Alvernia couldn't manage the equalizer.
Alvernia looks to get back on the winning track when they travel to Lycoming on Sept. 29th for their Commonwealth Conference opener at 11:00am.
