Crusaders Sweep Bryn Athyn

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2012) - The Crusader (7-7) Volleyball team dominated the court in three straight sets to overpower the Bryn Athyn Lions (5-9) by scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-19.  This was Alvernia's second 3-0 win this season after they defeated Gwynedd-Mercy 3-0 on Sept. 8th.

A combination of 10 kills, five each for Kristen Rupp (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa/Brandywine) and six team blocks through the first two sets helped guide the Crusaders to commanding leads in both frames.  Lion Kaitlyn Brock played strong for Bryn Athyn, with eight kills of her own, but Bryn Athyn proved to be no match for Alvernia through the first two sets.

The third and final set turned out to be the closest of the three with the Lions staging a 6-1 run late in the game to bring it close but they couldn't close the gap and Alvernia held on for the 25-19 win.

Alvernia looks to continue their winning ways as they host a tri-match on Sept. 29th where they will face PSU-Berks at 9am and Cedar Crest College at 11am.
