Crusaders 1-1 On Final Day At Greyhound Classic

Alvernia Falls To Wilkes, Defeats King's



Bethlehem, Pa. (Sept. 1, 2012) - The Crusader Volleyball team went 1-1 on their final day at the Greyhound Premiere Tournament at Moravian College.  Alvernia (1-3) opened the day with a 0-3 loss to Wilkes (2-2) and closed the day with a 3-1 win over King's (1-3), their first win of 2012.

Alvernia dropped three straight sets to Wilkes in their first game of the day.  The Colonels took the first set  25-18, the second set 25-19 and won the game with a 25-12 third set.

The Crusaders earned their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over King's College in their final game of the Greyhound Premiere Tournament.  Alvernia took the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-21 before falling 20-25 in the third set.  They rebounded with a 25-17 win in the fourth set to take the game.

Sophomore Liz Newman (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) led the way for Alvernia over King's with 15 kills, while Kristen Rupp (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and Brittany Lantz (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) also hit double digit kills with 12 and ten respectively. 

Alvernia returns to action in their home and conference opener against Lebanon Valley Wed. Sept. 5th at 7:00 pm.
