BOX SCORE BOX SCORE

Lancaster, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2012) - Tenth-ranked Franklin & Marshall (2-1) scored a pivotal goal just before halftime for a 2-0 lead at the break then added two more in the second half in a 4-1 win over Alvernia University (2-1) Thursday evening in non-conference field hockey action at F&M.

The Diplomats took a 1-0 lead exactly 13 minutes into the game on a goal by Kristen Zublin.  It was the first goal of the season surrendered by Alvernia keeper Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) after 176 scoreless minutes.  It's the longest scoreless streak to start a season for the Crusaders since they opened the 2004 campaign with three straight shutouts.

Wunsch made four saves over the next 20 minutes and got a defensive save from junior Taylor Eichelberger (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) to keep the Dips off the board, but the hosts drew a penalty corner with under 30 seconds to go in the first half and cashed in for a 2-0 lead.

F&M went up 3-0 just over 10 minutes into the second half, and the Crusaders finally got on the board in the 57th minute on the first goal of the season by junior Kyle Dillman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin).  F&M closed the scoring in the 65th minute.

Wunsch finished with 10 saves over 65 minutes and Courtney Daniels (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) made her collegiate debut in the final five minutes.

The Crusaders return home to host Montclair State Saturday at noon in their home-opener.
