Reading, Pa. (Sept. 8, 2012) - On Saturday evening the Alvernia (3-0-1) University Men's Soccer team defeated Wilkes University (1-1) in game two of the Crusader Cup.  Crusader sophomore, Alex Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) netted two goals en route to victory.

The first half saw three penalty kicks and three goals.  Fifteen minutes into the game a Wilkes defender committed a handball penalty inside the box to set up a penalty kick for the Crusaders.  Senior Kyle Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest), buried his PK into the back of the net to give Alvernia the 1-0 advantage.

Shortly after, Alvernia was called for a tripping penalty inside the box at the other end of the field. Wilkes' Eric McAnena shot his penalty kick but Crusader goalie Ben Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) made a diving, finger tip save.

Minutes later Alex Martyn was tripped in Wilkes' box to force the third penalty kick of the night. Martyn found the back of the net for the Crusader's second goal. Alvernia took a 3-0 lead into the half.

Midway through the second half, sophomore Tyler Reinoehl (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) claimed a fifty/fifty header and passed it twenty yards to the wide open A. Martyn who broke away and scored his second goal of the game.

With under twenty minutes left in the game, freshman Ricky Bruno (Reading Pa./Exeter) capped off the night by scoring his first goal as a Crusader.

Alvernia finished the night with 13 corner kicks and 13 shots while Wilkes attempted three corners and seven shots.

Diller recorded three saves for his third shutout in four games and helped improved Alvernia's record to 3-0-1.
