Women's Soccer Handles Altoona 2-0

Crusaders Hold PSU-Altoona Without A Shot

Altoona, Pa. (Sept. 8. 2012) - Alvernia got off to their best start in program history as junior Bridget Verdel (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame) netted two goals, and Laura Mauroschadt) Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) assisted on both as Alvernia (3-0-1) defeated host PSU-Altoona (0-4) by a score of 2-0 this afternoon in non-conference action.

After a scoreless first half that saw Alvernia out-shoot Altoona 9-0, the Crusdaers broke through with Verdel's first goal of the game in the 55th minute as she managed a turn-around shot after scrambling for the ball in front of the net.  Alvernia got an insurance goal less than ten minutes later as Verdel finished after a pair of quick passes from Myrisa Kates (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and Mauroschadt.

PSU-Altoona didn't manage a shot all game, the first time that the Crusaders have held an oppenent without a shot.  Additionally, this is the first time that the Alvernia Women's Soccer team has strung together four straight shutouts.

Alvernia stays up at Altoona and will face Moravian tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm.
