Reading, Pa. (Oct. 1, 2013) - Alvernia University (8-2-1) fell to visiting FDU-Florham (5-6) by a score of 2-0 Tuesday evening in non-conference action on Alvernia's turf field. Shots were even at 12 per team, but the Crusaders were unable to find the back of the net through 90 minutes. This was the first time this season Alvernia has been held without a goal.
The first half was a scoreless affair, with the Crusaders having the best chance at a goal from either team.
Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College) banged her shot off the crossbar about halfway through the first half for one of Alvernia's six first half shots.
The Devils struck with a goal in the 48th minute thanks to a bullet just inside the left post from
Claire Donohue that was formulated off a throw-in. They added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute after a long breakaway and controlled shot from
Samantha Messina.

Colleen Maher (Wall, NJ/Wall Township) tallied five saves but was tagged for two goals, tying her season high goals against.
Alvernia opens Commonwealth Conference play on Sat. Oct. 5th at 4:00pm when they travel to Widener University.
