Arcadia Holds Off Alvernia, 3-2

Galanti And Liberto Score For Crusaders

Glenside, Pa. (Oct. 15, 2013) - Arcadia University (9-5, 3-2) took a two-goal, second-half cushion and held on for a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (7-6, 0-4) Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action at Arcadia.

The Crusaders scored the opener when Sara Galanti (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown) tallied an unassisted goal in the third minute of play.  Arcadia tied it up at 1-1 midway through the first half on a direct blast off a corner play from Taylor Dalisera.  Dalisera struck again on a corner nine minutes into the second half for a 2-1, Arcadia lead, and the Knights took the 3-1 lead on a goal nine minutes later.

Alvernia pulled within a goal when Summer Liberto (Saverna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored her sixth of the season assisted by Natalie Messaros (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) with just over 11 minutes left in the game.

Alvernia goalie Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) had three saves over the next seven minutes to keep the Crusaders close.  Alvernia freshman Margaret Wentzel (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) had a shot blocked and Messaros sent one wide in the final three minutes of play.

Wunsch finished with seven saves for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders host Hood College at 11:00 a.m. Saturday looking for a very important conference win.
