Grantham, Pa. (Oct. 16, 2013) - The Messiah College (13-1, 4-0) Falcons, ranked #2 in the latest NSCAA Continental Tire NCAA Division III Men's National Poll easily handed Alvernia (4-8-2, 1-2-1) an 8-0 loss Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference action at Messiah College.
The Falcons scored early, taking the 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the game and tacked on four more goals before halftime. They netted three goals in a six minute span between 12:16 and 18:18 for the comfortable 5-0 lead. In the second half, they scored goals six and seven within three minutes of one another, at 53:54 and 56:20 respectively, and added on their eighth and final goal at 77:07. The Falcons had six different players score and tallied seven assists on the night.
The Crusaders were limited to just two shots all night, one in each half, and one corner kick. Alvernia used both
Matt Wells (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) and
David Giannini (Harleysville, Pa./Faith Christian) in net. Through the first half, Giannini tallied six saves while allowing five goals, and the second half saw Wells post four saves and allow three goals.
Alvernia will host Lycoming College on Sat. Oct. 19th, Alvernia's Homecoming, for a 4:00pm Commonwealth Conference game.
