BOX SCORE
Frederick, Md. (Oct. 26, 2013) - Junior
Josh Wollaston (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) scored in a second straight game and Alvernia University (7-8-2-, 4-2-1) scored two second-half goals in a 2-1 win over Hood College (5-9-1, 2-4-1) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Hood.
The Blazers took a 1-0 lead on a goal in the 14th minute, but
Matt Wells (Linwood, Pa./Chicester) and the Crusaders' defense kept the board clean the rest of the way. Wollaston scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute and
Alex Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) finished a Wollaston assist in the 83rd minute for the win.
With 13 points and two games to go, Alvernia needs just one more point to secure a bid in the Commonwealth Championships. Messiah College is one more win away from clinching the top seed in the postseason. Alvernia could get as high as second with two more wins and one more Etown loss.
Alvernia hosts Albright College next Wednesday and closes the regular season hosting Stevenson next Saturday.
