BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 30, 2013) - Albright College (5-10-2, 3-4-1) netted a game-winning goal in the second overtime for a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (7-9-2, 4-3-1) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.

The Crusaders could have locked up a spot in the Commonwealth Championships with at least a tie, but now head to Saturday's match against Stevenson with their playoff spot still up in the air.  A tie or win would still lock up a spot, but they would need some help to get in with a loss.

The Lions are also fighting for a playoff spot and opened up Wednesday's game with some fire.  They ripped off 10 shots in the opening half and scored in the 11th minute on a give-and-go down the middle between Tyler Walters and Vitali Zaluha with Walters netting his seventh of the season.  Alvernia junior Josh Wollaston (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) had a chance at the equalizer late in the first half, but his penalty kick was snuffed out by Albright keeper Austin Aldinger.

Zaluha set up Andrew Sussingham for his first of the season 80 seconds into the second half and the Lions took a 2-0 lead.

Alvernia cut that in half in the 61st minute when Wollaston and Joe Raymond (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) worked a give-and-go in a tight space with Wollaston on the finishing end.  Wollaston then set up Alex Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) in the 69th minute and the Crusaders tied it up 2-2 with 20 minutes left in regulation.

The Crusaders had plenty of chances over the final 20 minutes, but Aldinger made four saves and the Crusaders were wide of the mark on three other chances.  Alvernia ripped off three shots in the first 10-minute overtime period without a goal then had two more in the second OT before Albright scored the winner.  Peter Bockarie carried the ball into the box on the right side and put a ball across the front of the net that Alvernia keeper Matt Wells (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) got a hand on, but the deflection found the feet of Chris Bucks who burried the carom.

Alvernia will host Stevenson in the regular season finale on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
