Purchase, N.Y. (Oct. 5, 2013) - Alvernia University (4-12) split a pair of matches at the MAC Crossover Women's Volleyball Quad Match Saturday afternoon hosted by Manhattanville College.
The two Reading area teams--Alvernia and Albright--made the trip to Freedom host Manhattanville along with King's College. The MAC Crossover features four different pods with four comparable teams from the previous season's league standings in both the Commonwealth and Freedom Conferences.
The Crusaders opened the day with a 3-2 loss to King's and closed with a 3-1 win over Manhattanville. The Commonwealth teams got the better of the two Freedom teams with Albright sweeping King's and Manhattanville.
King's took the opening set 25-22 before Alvernia stormed back with a 25-12 win in the second. Both the third and fourth sets went to extra points with King's taking a 28-26 win in the third and Alvernia answering with a 27-25 win in the fourth.Â
Alvernia fell behind 9-4 in the fifth and deciding set before staging a comeback that tied the set at 12-all. It was knotted again at 13-13 before King's got back-to-back kills from Alexa Nelson to close it out.
Manhattanville took the early lead in the second match with a decided 25-16 win in the opening set. The Valiants had a 24-18 lead in the second set before seven straight Alvernia points gave the Crusaders their first set point at 25-24. Manhattanville tied it on a kill from Susy Camaj, but a
Jamie Morris (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) kill and a Mville attack error tied up the match.
The Crusaders won another tight set, 25-23, then closed the match with a 25-20 win.
