Alvernia Earns ECAC Bid

Crusaders Seeded #8, Head To #1 Stevenson Wednesday

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 11, 2013) - Alvernia University earned the #8 seed in the ECAC South Region Women's Soccer Championships and will travel to top-seeded Stevenson University for a quarterfinal match-up on Wednesday.  Game time is to be announced.

Alvernia and Stevenson met on the final day of the regular season in a Commonwealth Conference match with the Mustangs earning a 1-0 overtime win and the #3 seed in the Commonwealth Championships.  The Mustangs knocked off #2 Elizabethtown 2-0 in the semifinal then lost to top-seeded Messiah College, 1-0 in the final.

Alvernia is making its second appearance in the ECAC South Championships.  The Crusaders qualified as the #4 seed in 2010 and knocked off #5 Cabrini, 2-1, at home before losing 1-0 to #1 seed and eventual champion Frostburg State.

The Crusaders are led by a strong senior class with eight players including the team's two All-Commonwealth performers, Kately and Kelsey Gill (State College, Pa./State College Area).  Freshman reserve Bri McGrath (Sicklerville, N.J./Winslow) leads the team in goals with seven.  Senior goalie Colleen Maher (Wall, N.J./Wall Township) tied the single season record for shutouts with nine this season and holds the career record with 18.

The Mustangs are led by Alexis Siejack who has 14 tallies on the season.  Freshman goalie Annie McCoach has posted a 0.96 goals against average in 16 starts for the Mustangs.
