BOX SCORE

Union, N.J. (Nov. 17, 2013) - Freshman Margaret Wentzel (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) earned MVP honors and tied the Alvernia University freshman scoring record with the only goal of the game in the 69th minute, and Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) made 10 saves as the eighth-seeded Crusaders (14-7) earned its first ECAC Title with a 1-0 win over #2 Stevens Institute of Technology (14-8) Sunday morning at Kean University.

The Crusaders and the Ducks played to a scoreless draw through the first 68 minutes until Wentzel finally broke through.  The Crusaders drew a penalty corner and Wentzel burried her 21st goal of the season assisted by Kyle Dillman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin).  The goal tied two marks for Wentzel--the career total for goals in ECAC play (Becky Macchione) with five and the freshman mark for goals in a season (Megan Novogratz in 2003).

Alvernia was making its sixth appearance in the ECAC Championships and third Final.

Stevens racked up a 13-8 advantage through the opening half, but Alvernia ramped up the pressure in the second half outshooting Stevens 11-3 in the second half.  The Crusaders generated five shots in the last nine minutes of the game finally scoring on Wentzels shot with just under two minutes to play.
