Early Flurry Carries Alvernia Past Stevenson, 3-2

Crusaders Earn #3 Seed In Commonwealth Championships

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2013) - Alvernia University (8-9-2, 5-3-1) and Stevenson University (8-9-2, 3-5-2) combined for five goals in the first 27 minutes with Alvernia emerging with a 3-2 lead that held up for a win in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Alvernia. 

The Crusaders came out fast, scoring in the second minute with an unassisted goal by Josh Wollaston (Middletown, Del./ Caravel Academy). Alex Martyn (Media, Pa/Penncrest) answered a Stevenson goal in the 18th minute off of an assist from Wolston. Stevenson tied it up again in the 25th minute; however Wollaston scored less than two minutes later for the Crusaders and regained the lead on the 3rd and final goal of the game.

Wollaston has now scored or assisted on each of the last seven goals for the Crusaders spanning the last three games, and nine of the last 10.  Over the last four games he has six goals and three assists.

Alvernia's defense held strong in the second half, allowing only three shots on goal.  Alvernia goalie David Giannini (Harleysville, Pa./Faith Christian) made five saves in the win.

Alvernia made the Commonwealth playoffs as the #3 seed and will go against #2 seed Elizabethtown University on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Elizabethtown.
