Crusaders Open With 2-1 Win At Immaculata

Wollaston Nets Game-Winner In 81st Minute

Immaculata, Pa. (Aug. 30, 2013) - Junior Josh Wollaston (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) netted three game-winners a season ago and picked up his first one of the 2013 campaign in the first game scoring unassisted in the 81st minute as Alvernia University (1-0) opened the season with a 2-1 win over Immaculata University (0-1) Friday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Immaculata.

Alex Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) finished off a cross from Joe Raymond (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) late in the first half and the Crusaders had a 1-0 lead at the halftime break.  Immaculata tied the score at 1-1 just over 20 minutes into the second half and Wollaston's tally came with under 10 minutes to play.

Alvernia split time in net between junior Matt Wells (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) and sophomore David Giannini (Harleysville, Pa./Faith Christian).  Wells started and played the first half.  He recorded three saves.  Giannini played the final 45 mintues and made one save.

Alvernia returns home for its home opener next Tuesday, a 7:00 p.m. game against Gwynedd-Mercy College.
