Galanti Gets Game-Tying And Winning Goals

BOX SCORE

St. Davids, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2013) - Sophomore Sara Galanti (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown) scored the game-tying goal in the 58th minute then scored the winner in extra time as Alvernia University (4-2) earned its third straight win with a 4-3 decision at Eastern University (2-4) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action.

The Eagles scored the only two goals in the first half and the first one in the second to take a 3-0 lead with just over 25 minutes left to play.

Alvernia freshman Katie Eisenhauer (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) netted her first goal of the year and the first of the game for the Crusaders in the 50th minute to cut the gap to 3-1 then two minutes later fellow freshman Alexis Klopp (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken) scored on a penalty stroke to close to 3-2.

Galanti found the back of the net in the 58th minute on a penalty corner for the equalizer then in the final minute the guests drew another corner.  The Crusaders took their only timeout to set up a play and the strategy worked when the play ended with Galanti pushing the ball across the line after a scrum in front.

Alvernia is starting a three-game road streak and will travel to Wilkes University this Saturday.
